January to March

Australia Day is celebrated on the 26th of January. Australian citizens all over the country celebrate with fireworks, barbecues, concerts, and other festivities. In Derby, you can expect to witness flag-raising ceremonies, citizenship ceremonies, and other community events.

The Derby Boab Festival starts in March, running for two weeks and is a time of community celebration of the local Kimberley culture. The festival offers traditional dance performances, art and craft markets, music concerts and other fun activities and events.

April to June

The Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster, an annual multi-day festival held in May, takes place at various venues throughout the East Kimberley. The event features a rodeo, country music concerts, food and wine tastings, long-table dinners, outdoor film screenings and various other activities throughout the week.

June marks the beginning of whale watching season in Western Australia. At Whale Song Cafe, you can join a boat or catamaran ride from Broome for a chance to spot the gentle giants of the ocean.

July to September

The Gibb River Road Mountain Bike Challenge, an annual event in July, attracts international mountain bikers and off-road enthusiasts. The event involves a 660km race along the rugged Gibb River Road, taking you through the stunning Kimberley landscape

August is the ideal time of the year for birdwatching enthusiasts to head out to Parry Lagoon Nature Reserve, one of the prominent wetland areas in the Kimberley region.

September marks the beginning of turtle nesting season on the Kimberley coast. You can join a Turtle Watch at Goombaragin Eco Retreat on Eco Beach.

October to December

The Derby Camel Cup, a fun and exciting event held in October, brings together local riders and camels for an exciting race in the Derby racecourse. The event offers great entertainment for both kids and adults.

November marks the start of the wet season in the Kimberley region, making it an ideal time of the year to witness the growth and blooming of wildflowers throughout the region.

December is the time to celebrate the end of the year with Christmas fairs and markets held in towns throughout the region. The Derby Christmas Pageant is one grand event to look forward to in the region, featuring a procession of floats from various community organizations.
